BIRDING PACKAGE

Let us know if you would like us to put together a birding tour or package for you! In the area here are some of the tours available but they need to be booked far in advance to reserve a guide.

Rio Magnolia: Guided bird-watching tour through our rainforest and farm at Rio Magnolia to observe birds in and above the rainforest and open pasture areas. Such birds in the forest are the Great Curassow, Black and Crested Guans, White Crowned Parrots, Violaceous, Baird's and Slatey Tailed Trogons, Chestnut-mandibled Toucans, Fiery Billed Aracaris, Chestnut-headed Oropendolas, Scarlet-rumped Cacique, Orange-collared and White-ruffed Manakins, Flycatchers, Pewees. Numerous Raptors can be seen above and below the Lodge; Swallow-tailed Kites, Bat Falcons, a White Hawk, Laughing Falcons. Numerous types of Hummingbirds are found in the forest and the gardens.
Hacienda Baru: Lowland Bird Watching Hike (6-7 hours) to observe secondary forest birds such as tanagers, honeycreepers, vireos, river and mangrove forest birds such as petrels, jaegers, herons and gulls and beach birds sandpipers, pelicans, frigate birds. Chances are that you will see other wildlife too! Tour includes a typical Costa Rican breakfast.


Los Cusingos Neotropical Bird Sanctuary, near San Isidro de El General, former home of botanist and ornithologist Alexander Skutch. Here you can find Turquoise Cotinga and Baird's Trogon. Other birds include Rufous-breasted Wren, Ruddy Woodcreeper, Riverside Wren, Bicolored Antbird, Purple-crowned Fairy, Red-capped Manakin, Blue-crowned Manakin, Orange-collared Manakin, and the famous Fiery-billed Aracari.


Las Quebradas (FUDEBIOL); www.fudebiol.org It is near San Isidro de El General and Chirripo National Park at an elevation of 1000-2500 m. The project is especially proud of the diversity of birds and butterflies that live in their forest. They have already constructed a butterfly farm to show all the different types of butterflies for the enjoyment of the visitors. Now, they also want to improve the birdwatching opportunities in the area. Experts suspect that there are about 200 different birds in the protected area.
